Prior to this he was an Assistant Technical Officer at the Naval Weapons Center, China Lake, California and then an Engineer for the Esso Research Laboratories in Baton Rouge, Louisiana. Professor Cobb's current research involves the development, evaluation, demonstration and commercialization of a set of biomass energy-related processes:
Professor Cobb consults with a number of agencies and companies on projects related to biomass energy. Professor Cobb's current service involves assistance to the American Institute of Chemical Engineers (AIChE), the National Council of Examiners for Engineering and Surveying (NCEES), the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania and Allegheny County:
