Transfers External Transfer Students

If you have attended another college or university after graduating from high school and now wish to attend the Swanson School of Engineering at the University of Pittsburgh, refer to the following guidelines:

EXTERNAL TRANSFER GUIDELINES

To be considered for admission, students must:

  • have a GPA of at least 2.75 if transferring from a four year institution or a GPA of at least 2.8 if transferring from a two year institution.
  • complete 24 credits appropriate for engineering (i.e. Calculus, Chemistry, Calculus based Physics, Computer Programming in C or C++) See Freshman Requirements.
  • if students have fewer than 24 credits, their high school record will also be evaluated in the admissions decision.
  • Not more than 60 credits may be transferred from a two-year college. No more than 90 may be
transferred from a four-year college. If 60 or more credits have been earned at a four-year school,
no transfer credit will be granted for credits earned subsequently at a two-year school.

If you've met these requirements, contact the Office of Admissions and Financial Aid for an application. The application should be returned to that office with official copies of transcripts from high school and all previous colleges or universities attended and an official SAT or ACT test result as needed.

Students wishing to receive AP or IB credit must have their scores sent upon their admission to the Swanson School of Engineering. The Swanson School of Engineering cannot accept CLEP credit.

If you are not currently a US Permanent Resident, please refer to the guidelines for International Transfers.
