Andrew Schaefer


I am an Associate Professor and Wellington C. Carl Faculty Fellow in the Department of Industrial Engineering at The University of Pittsburgh. I also hold secondary appointments in the Departments of Medicine and Bioengineering.

I double-majored in Computational and Applied Mathematics and Mathematical Economic Analysis at Rice University in 1994. I also received a Masters in Computational and Applied Mathematics from Rice in 1994. I received my PhD in Industrial and Systems Engineering from Georgia Tech in 2000.

I teach undergraduate courses in discrete event simulation and engineering the service sector. I teach a masters course in logistics and supply chain management. I teach PhD courses in integer programming, computational optimization, therapeutic optimization, stochastic programming, and advanced Markov decision processes.
